Genetic Health Guarantee

Our Genetic Health Guarantee covers the following conditions.

Moderate-Severe Hip/Elbow  Dysphasia:

Seller guarantees the puppy until two years of age against moderate to severe hip or elbow dysplasia which would reduce Puppy’s quality of life.

Requirements/Guidelines:

  • If there is evidence of hip or elbow dysplasia, the Puppy must go to a veterinarian that specializes in PennHIP. See more information on how to locate a Veterinarian that specializes in PennHIP at AIS | Locate a PennHIP Veterinarian                                             The Distraction Index (DI) will not be used to determine hip dysplasia as this is a risk indicator only. The Osteoarthritis (OA) Findings will be used to determine hip dysplasia and must indicate moderate OA or severe OA on either or both hips for health guarantee.
  • Because up to 80% of cases of dysplasia can be attributed to environmental causes, Buyer’s veterinarian must sign that the dog has not been overfed for its height/structure, was not raised on slippery floors or excessively exercised, has received adequate nutrition from a quality food with proper protein/calcium ratios, and that the x-ray was not taken during the female’s heat (which can cause additional sublaxity).
  • An Official OFA evaluation is required to accurately diagnose moderate to severe hip/elbow dysphasia. Preliminary OFA evaluations (evaluations done before 24 month of age) are not accepted. Official OFA evaluations can not be done until the dog is 24 months of age or older. Therefore to complete this requirement there will be a 2 month grace period allowed for buyer to have OFA x-rays done and submitted by their vet to OFA for evaluation.

Congenital Cardiac Disease:
Seller guarantees until two years of age Puppy against congenital cardiac disease.

Requirements/Guidelines:

  • If there is a concern for congenital cardiac disease, Buyer must go to a board certified cardiologist and complete an OFA Advanced Cardiac Exam.
  • This guarantee covers congenital cardiac disease diagnosed during the OFA Advanced Cardiac Exam via echocardiographic examination that is found to be Abnormal with Moderate or Severe severity. Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Specialty of Cardiology is considered by the American Veterinary Medical Association as the benchmark of clinical proficiency for veterinarians in clinical cardiology, and examination by a Diplomate of this specialty board is required.

Breed Specific Genetic Diseases:
Seller guarantees that sire and dam have received a complete panel of breed-recommended genetic tests. If a dog is a known carrier of any disease, Seller will not pair that dog with another dog that is also a carrier of known disease and therefore guarantees until two years of age Puppy to be NOT AFFECTED by any of the genetic diseases that the Dam and Sire have been tested for. It is acceptable for the puppy to be Normal (clear) or a Carrier of the disease trait.

Requirements/Guidelines:

  • Buyer must have samples collected by a certified verternarian and must have the verternarian sign a verternarian collection form provided by PawPrint Genetics.
  • Paw Print Genetics is the approved diagnostic testing laboratory if concerned Puppy is affected by any disease and must also include parentage confirmation required by Paw Print Parentage if testing shows Puppy is affected.

Assuming all of the above Requirements/Guidlones are upheld, if the puppy is diagnosed with any of the conditions mentioned above the buyer has the following options:

  1. Keep the puppy with a Full refund of purchase price.
  2. Exchange for an alternate puppy.
  3. Pick of an additional puppy from a current or future litter free of charge.
